Ah, the age-old debate: is it a romper or is it a jumpsuit? It seems like no matter what you call it, there will always be someone who will correct you.
The one item of clothing I absolutely love to hate is fashion rompers, or maybe it’s the casual jumpsuit. But I’m ready to end this argument once and for all! I want to help you decide which one you should be wearing. I’m talking about long sleeves, short sleeves, formal events, and casual occasions. One-piece outfits are great additions to your wardrobe and can elevate your unique style. I know they can be a pain (especially when you have to go to the bathroom) but man I have found some really stylish ones. So let’s get ready to tackle romper vs. jumpsuit two trendy staples of women’s fashion!
What Is Considered A Romper?
A romper is a piece of clothing consisting of a shirt with attached shorts. In some cases, they do remind me of a baby onesie. I’ve heard them called playsuits, jumpsuits, and even adult onesies. However, true rompers are all a one-piece that is hard work to get on and off. There are some key differences like the different shapes, cuts, styles, and necklines among other things. So I’m sharing both.
What is the difference between rompers and jumpsuits?
Cut/Style
One of the main differences between rompers vs. jumpsuits is the cut and style. The leg length of the jumpsuit is longer than that of a romper. The entire outfit is a top or blouse attached to long pants. Jumpsuits come in a variety of shapes, and depending on your body type, the cut of the pants can be flattering. Jumpsuits with wide legs look excellent on pear-shaped bodies. The leg style can greatly impact the overall silhouette and can affect how the jumpsuit is styled.
Materials Used
The fabric and color of rompers and jumpsuits can significantly affect their overall style and feel. Rompers can be made of a variety of lightweight materials, different materials ranging from cotton and denim to silk and chiffon, and can come in a range of colors and prints. Finding the right romper can really come down to the fabric and structure.
What to consider when choosing between a romper vs jumpsuit
Versatility
Now I know I have a lot going on, but I still like to look like I have it together! There are times I can put together a well-thought-out outfit. However, whenever I am in a hurry a romper really comes in handy. There are many different styles out there. Ranging from dressy to really casual. Jumpsuits can be really versatile because you can pair them with high heels for a date night. Or do a blue denim jumper with a leather jacket for more casual wear. Because rompers are generally short pants, I feel like they would be best for warmer weather. It’s also a go-to when you think of beach wear or resort wear. You could even do a long sleeve romper for a beach dinner vibe.
Comfort Level
All of my rompers and jumpsuits are really comfortable. They don’t make me feel restricted at all. I have an hourglass body type so I always wear shapewear to help sculpt my shape and give me a smoother finish. Wide-leg jumpsuits are usually my go-to. And if you happen to see me only wearing sleeveless jumpsuits this summer, mind your business! LOL.
Styling tips for rocking either look
Jumpsuits can have a defined waistline, I love adding belts to help cinch my waist. If it’s a more formal occasion I pair a trendy jumpsuit with a pair of heels and a matching handbag. This floral romper is a bit loose and flowy throughout. It has long bell sleeves that I paired with my favorite heeled sandals. I always consider the overall silhouette when styling.
Occasions to Wear Each Piece
- long-sleeve jumpsuits are good for parties or social gatherings
- short rompers are good for a day by the pool
- An off-the-shoulder romper is good for a picnic or brunch
- wide leg jumpsuits can add trendy sophistication to your office wear
- formal trendy jumpsuits can be perfect to wear to a wedding
Who Wears Rompers or Jumpsuits Best?
Gone are the days when rompers were made just for young children. And don’t be fooled! Rompers aren’t just for women. Lisa A La Mode introduced me to the “Romphim Bae.” Yes, the fashion world wasn’t ready for the men to come through, and slay the romper and jumpsuit look better than some of the women on the scene.
Both rompers and jumpsuits offer an excellent option for a stylish and comfortable outfit. There is also a wide range of styles. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed weekend look or something more sophisticated for a special occasion, there’s a romper or jumpsuit to suit your style. With so many different styles available, it can be hard to choose between the two. However, when making your decision consider the weather, comfort level, and how you plan on wearing them. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference whether you opt for a romper or jumpsuit.
