One of the best ways to have a date night is to have a spa date night in the privacy of your own home.
After we had kids, we had to find ways to make quality time for each other a priority. It’s important to always find ways to keep the spark going in your relationship. My husband’s love language is physical touch, so I try to find ways to work that into our busy schedule. Valentine’s Day is coming up so a perfect way to spend the evening would be to have an at-home spa date night. However, you might enjoy it so much you will add it to your monthly love routine.
Is a spa day a good date?
If you read my post on ways to treat yourself when your love language is self-care. Then you already know that people whose love language is self-care enjoy being touched and taking care of their own bodies. One of the main reasons the pandemic was so hard on so many people is because we no longer had contact with people. Physical or otherwise. And physical contact is necessary and beneficial to our wellbeing.
A great way to get that physical touch is with spa treatments or a relaxing massage.
What do couples do at a spa?
The best part of any spa experience is taking advantage of everything they have to offer. My friend recently told me having a spa date with his partner was a unique bonding experience. Actually, his exact words were “I felt like I was getting to know a new person.” You can’t get that on a regular degular date night. Most spas offer couples services like
- a couples treatment room
- couples massage
- couple’s facials
- couple’s spa packages
- Romance packages (these packages usually have extras like flowers, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, hors d’oeuvres and 30 min. of relaxation time after your treatment in a Vip suite it’s perfect for a romantic evening.)
How do you do a spa night date?
Even though going to a spa is great. And being pampered by someone else is amazing. A stay-at-home spa date night is a perfect home date idea. So go ahead and save this post and pin it, so you can plan the perfect romantic spa night.
First thing is planning the ambiance. So put together the perfect Spotify playlist, make sure you have low lights in whatever room/s you will be using. Pick out some aromatherapy candles it might also be a good choice to get some fresh flowers.
Get ready for the massage:
The most common massage is the Swedish massage. However, if you’re anything like me then you are probably just going to be winging it. That basically means kneading, tapping, and rubbing skin for the most part, LOL. You will need a massage oil not only to keep friction from occurring, but because it has therapeutic benefits as well.
Some popular massage oils:
- grapeseed oil (great for hydration)
- Olive oil (a bit heavier and has a greasy feel)
- Argan Oil
- Coconut Oil
- Sweet Almond Oil
- Sesame oil (slightly thicker than the other oils)
- Avocado Oil
- Apricot Kernel Oil
- Jojoba Oil
- Macadamia Oil
- Sunflower Oil
- Safflower oil
**If you decide to use essential oils, please remember that they shouldn’t be applied directly to skin and should be diluted with a carrier oil first.**
Let me also add in that you can do a foot massage as well. I feel like when we think of massages we tend to think of a full-body massage and neglect the feet. But the beautiful thing about creating a romantic at home experience is tending to the whole body. It doesn’t have to be perfect because most of us aren’t massage therapists. It’s about being intentional with how and where you touch.
Elevate your romantic night with a hot bath
You may choose to skip the massage or do a hot bath first. Start with either warm water or hot water and add in a bath bomb, rose petals, or some bath salts. I personally love using homemade sugar scrubs. If you have a bath caddy you can enjoy your favorite sweet treats (or any other of your favorite snacks) while you soak.
Depending on your living situation you might opt to use your hot tub as well. We have one but if we are going to do a good massage then we might not feel like going in and out of the house.
A spa date night is the perfect self-care experience
We have two small kids, and we don’t always have a sitter. Finding the perfect date night idea gets slim when you are in situations like ours. However, this is a perfect at home romantic date night idea for after you put the kids to bed. It doesn’t require much money and it helps you to reconnect with your partner. You can add in extras like your own diy face masks, champagne, charcuterie, or a movie. And as far as love languages go, I’m pretty sure we have touched on physical touch, quality time, and acts of service.
