I speak often about the importance of representation. I make sure to keep books in our home with Black characters. When kids see themselves represented in books, their existence is validated, and they feel that they are part of the world. Especially now that more and more books with Black characters are ending up on banned book lists, it’s important for us to do the work at home. I have a list on the blog of some books, it’s not comprehensive by any means.

I love calendars. I write stuff down all the time. My to do lists, goals, campaigns, etc…I recently started asking Santana to write down some of his goals as well. So when we got this Golden Years calendar from @goldfish_gilbert it was right on time to help us track some of his swim goals.

The Golden Years are the time spent at Goldfish Swim School, when kids and their families are together making memories and building life skills, both in and out of the water. Swim lessons at @goldfishswimschool aren’t just a time to learn water safety and how to safely swim. It’s also an opportunity for Golden moments!

Took the weekend off of here so that we could expe

Took the weekend off of here so that we could experience some Black joy. Because we deserve it, hell you deserve to see it on the timeline too.

Sent the boys to school this morning with some positive affirmations. People who know our boys know they love positive praise. Positive praise is an essential confidence-boosting part of the learning process. More importantly it helps my kids self-esteem. I want my boys to know they are loved, cherished, and that their lives matter.
