When our first son was born my husband and I decided to go to a Brazilian steakhouse to celebrate the arrival of our first child. During dinner I started smelling my son. I grabbed the car seat he was in and went to the bathroom. The first thing I noticed was there wasn’t a changing table in the bathroom. I scanned the bathroom frantically wondering how I would change my son. All I saw was two chairs. This would have to work. As I took my son out of his car seat I realized poop was completely covering his back and the seat. At this point I am sweating hard because diaper changes aren’t supposed to be this stressful. It then occurs to me that I don’t have an extra pair of clothes for him. As I am standing there freaking out I start wondering how in the world do I not have my diaper bag essentials?
Now that I have two children I have had to adjust what I have in my diaper bag. I don’t want any other mom’s to be unprepared like I was so I’m going to share with you all what I have in my diaper bag!
Newborn Essentials:
- Diapers
- wipes
- changing pad
- change of clothes!
- Burp cloths
- Bottles
- pacifier
- nursing pads
- diaper sacks
- formula (unless you breastfeed)
- diaper rash cream/diaper cream brush
Toddler Essentials:
- disposable placemats
- kleenex
- snacks
- hand sanitizer
- toys
- sippy cup
- mini first aid kit (I’m a boy mom so it get’s used so much!)
The Diaper Bag:
There are a few things to consider when purchasing a diaper bag. My husband and I tend to gravitate towards backpacks because we can both use it. Our favorite diaper bag right now is the Ultimate Parent Backpack by Elev8ed Cre8ion. This bag was designed to be the only bag needed for a family to carry outside the home. So far it has exceeded our expectations.
It has a ton of pockets, so I can fit everything I have listed above and then some! There are plenty of spaces to store all of your liquids. We also love that it’s travel ready. It has a luggage sleeve so we can put it on our roller board since we travel so much. There is a “parent pocket” because in addition to those essentials listed above you also need space to fit your own items.
This bag is actually better than our previous diaper backpack. My husband said “it’s a well thought out bag!” Make sure to visit the Elev8ed Cre8ion site and use code KISHA20 for an additional 20% off of your order.
I’m sure I am missing a few items. If you are anything like me then you never really know you need something until it’s time to use it. If you can think of anything else I should put in my bag then let me know below!
