Remember back in the day when we would ask our parents what they wanted as gifts and they would respond with “nothing just your love,” well those days are gone. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite gift ideas for Black moms. Check them out!
When I was younger, I put very little thought into the perfect gift for my mom. I always knew that she wouldn’t want much. She would say the best gifts are the ones from your heart. My personal favorite was when she would tell me all she wanted was for me to keep being me. But now I’m on a mission looking for the best Christmas gifts for Black moms, not just my mom but the wonderful mom’s I know. From the new mom to the seasoned grandmother. Because even though my mom was not the type of mom to ask for anything she deserved everything.
What is the best time to buy Christmas gifts?
I’m going to keep it real. I buy great gifts all year long. No lie, if I see a good deal on a Mother’s Day gift in November, I buy it and hide it (sometimes even forgetting about it.) However, some key times to always be on the lookout for is August. Why August? Because it’s Black Business month. Now I’m a firm believer that you can support Black businesses year-round and not just during holidays. A lot of stores are starting Black Friday deals earlier and earlier so you might even be able to find deals way before Thanksgiving Day. What I do know is that you don’t want to wait last minute especially if you have to factor in shipping. And depending on how many family members you are shopping for you might need to plan early.
What is the best place to buy Christmas gifts?
I’m always going to do my best to support small businesses. I try to do my due diligence and look around at the local shops in my community as well. However, I know sometimes that’s not always an option. When thinking about where to get the best mom gifts also try to consider what some of her favorite places to shop are. And of course, everyone knows you can find everything on Amazon for every price point.
What to buy the mom who needs a break?
When it comes to Black women, mother’s especially, self-care is often overlooked. We are always looking out for everyone else around us and usually have nothing left for ourselves. So, when I think about what unique gifts to give the mom who needs a break, I just listen to the women around me. Women who are on a mission to live soft lives. Some thoughtful gift ideas like a basket filled with her favorite snacks, essential oils, and beverage. Whether you’re getting something for your best friend, or a mother figure. Time is always something we wish we had more of so gifts like a babysitter, House Cleaner, or even a Professional Organizer is the next best thing.
What to get the busy mom who has everything?
A great way to find the most thoughtful gift for anyone who has everything, is to get something tailored to fit them. Personalized gifts like a coffee mug, or wine glass are good options. Try to think of useful gifts that fits your mom friend’s lifestyle and interests.
