Sugar Jam
Why It’s Great: It’s a little slice of Southern comfort tucked away in the Arizona desert.
What to Order: E V E R Y T H I N G
Sugar Jam was originally known for its mouth-watering cookies, pies, and jams—hence the name. But folks, this spot has evolved into so much more. Nowadays, it’s not just a bakery; it’s a full-blown Southern kitchen, offering you hearty meals that remind me of my time growing up in the South.
I ordered the Creole shrimp n’ southern grits topped with seasoned crab. I left off the crab because I’m not a huge fan. However, this meal was seasoned by the ancestors. I am usually very picky about my grits because everyone can’t make grits. IYKYK. But yes, this savory dish did not disappoint.
The atmosphere? It was definitely our vibe. The restaurant is Black owned and you know the food is on point when everyone is dancing while they eat. The chicken and waffles? Heavenly. Their Southern breakfast and brunch menu is everything you never knew you needed.
